It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 8/15/16

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a meme started by Book Journey. The folks over at Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers have given it a children’s/YA spin. I thought it would be a fun way to recap last week’s reading and give a sneak peek of my TBR pile.

Today is the quick-n-dirty-because-it’s-the-first-day-of-school edition.

    1. I wanted The Rose that Grew From Concrete to be better. The title poem, as well as a few others, reminded me of work produced during the Harlem Renaissance and were very powerful. The middle of the book, though, was quite a bit of trite love poetry. Still, those interested in Shakur’s life and work will not want to pass it by–the poems were published posthumously and reflect some journaling he did from the ages of 18-20.
