You know what’s pretty cool? When kids are so excited about a book that they want to reserve it! Right now I have 14 books that are waiting to be picked up by students, and there are 35 students waiting for books to get turned back in. The book with the most reserves on it? Divergent by Veronica Roth. I consider this pretty cool for a library that’s only open three class periods a day. Of course, the fact that students can now e-mail me to put titles on reserves helps a lot.
Travis Jonker, whose blog 100 Scope Notes is on School Library Journal, celebrates hold shelves on a monthly basis. Which I think is really cool. To participate, all you need to do is take a photo or video of your shelf and email or tweet it to him. He creates a gallery each month so you can see what’s hot at everyone else’s library. Interested in participating? Check out his December “call for submissions” here.
Not a librarian? Checking out our hold shelves will help you know which books to recommend to your students, add to your classroom library, or just plain read. Everyone wins 🙂
